Masturbation is as normal to human life as breathing. The old wives tales that “choking one’s chicken” or “spanking the monkey” is harmful have all been medically proven wrong. Masturbation does not cause blindness, increase your risk for prostate or other cancers, and it is not the cause of nervous conditions. Singles, couples, and definitely married people all experience desires to masturbate at various times in their lives. There are even health benefits associated with masturbation—but as with all things, “Everything in moderation, including moderation.”

The only people I know who don’t masturbate are either following a strict spiritual path (… and they avoid the practice not out of moral reasons, but because the same energy in our bodies that is our sexual energy, is also our spiritual energy.) Cultivating and channeling one’s life force definitely has its rewards, but as Buddhist meditation has shown, not even a totally celibate, austere life is a guarantee to awakening. It certainly helps, but anything can become a trap.

The global adult toys market will reach 35.5 billion USD by 2023 from 23.7 billion USD in 2017 with a CAGR of 6.97% during the period. The increasing use of adult toys for therapeutic purpose is the major factor for the growth of the market. (“Business Wire”—Oct 2, 2018)

The global sex toy industry is now dominated by sales to women. Porn built the internet and is still the most 6th most searched topic, fallen from 1st place in favor of television and other mindless entertainment searches, MapQuest, etc.. Like the cell phone has rerouted the pleasure center in many people, so is porn data showing disturbing changes in America’s sexual appetites… the rise in incest currently the most alarming.

(This too is a marker of how Rap Culture and its resulting Borderline Culture is influencing us in ways we need to look closer at… the, “I don’t need no man” and “Big Momma-ism” are topics I will speak to in upcoming posts. We don’t like to acknowledge it because Rap/ Hip Hop is the music that massages our egos and was the sound track of our “cool” adolescence” … but if we don’t look at it, we may not survive.)

Actors, professional athletes like Kellen Winslow, Jr. politicians, and more clergymen than we can list, have been “caught” masturbating. On a darker side, much of the “Me Too” allegations involved high profile men accused of masturbating in front of women they’d cornered. And women porn stars talk about their experiences with having been caught masturbating… so if most people do it, why is there still so much stigma attached to it?

A variety of sources are to blame. Second Century religions intent on controlling you by shame is the major culprit. But it took me a while to figure out that why there’s an increase in immature, shaming behavior in the culture today.

Thug Kulture = Borderline Personality Disorder Culture…
… and so is Redneck culture. (More insidious because it’s “entitled”?)

We live in a narcissistic nation where people exhibiting Borderline traits has risen alarmingly. People who grew up listening to the values of Rap music exhibit the highest symptoms. (Much more will be said about this in a later post.)

So a person can be a Techie, work in the medical field, or be a 7th Grade church girl… if they’ve grown up embracing Rap culture while having a weak identity structure marked by abandonment or rejection (both shaming to a child) or some form of abuse, they most often are DRAMA loving “Haters” who engage in behaviors harmful to themselves and others that lead to suicide, self-harm, and almost automatic triggers to pull each other down.

Rapper Drake is said to abstain from sex to get creative–yet would rater masturbate than have sex. But occasional masturbation is said to also increase the creative drive for other artists, musicians, and creative people.

There’s a lot of work to do if we’re to avoid cultural, national—even world destruction. Fingering or stroking yourself is not a cause to be fought against, but another aspect of life each person should balance with clarity and honesty. You’ve done nothing wrong. Enjoy your life.

Of course … discretion is advised…
